Education Ministry says universities from Moldova to be modernized

Chisinau, 27 June /MOLDPRES/ - The universities from Moldova on the next period will go through a process of reformation, merger and modernization. The big higher education institutions will absorb the smaller universities, as well as the research institutions. Education and Research Minister Anatolie Topala made statements to this effect at a conference today.   

Topala noted that the process was necessary and would contribute to the strengthening of the education system and would enhance the resilience of the native universities in the international rating. The education minister also said that, following the reform’s implementation, the universities would receive more financial resources and would consolidate their technical basis, research laboratories and the teachers and researchers would receive higher salaries.    

The official also said that the country had quite a few students and a lot of universities. ‘’Moldova will have large and consolidated universities, with modern infrastructure and they will be better regarded in international ratings. Bigger funds will be allocated for education and not for administration. The universities will pay increased attention to the transfer of knowledge and technologies,’’ the minister said.   

According to the Education and Research Ministry (MEC), such universities as the Moldovan State University, Technical University, the Academy of Economic Studies of Moldova will absorb most of the small universities, as well as most research institutions. The ministry will provide 700 million lei on this purpose. The transfer of students will be made gradually.     

As many as 11,522 young people got the Baccalaureate diploma this year.
