Moldovan food safety agency restricts national, international transports of animals because of high air temperatures

Chisinau, 29 June /MOLDPRES/ - The National Food Safety Agency (ANSA) on 30 June - 6 June restricted the national and international transports of living animals in Moldova. The decision was taken, given the establishment of the Yellow Code of heat all over Moldova.

According to ANSA, the national transport of animals will be allowed only in the time interval 21:00-08:00, on condition that additional room of at least 20 per cent for each animal transported is provided.

Thus, people taking care of animals are warned that they must take measures of protection of animals, giving them proper feeding and watering. They should verify the condition of animals at regular time intervals and undertake measures adequate to the situation, so that the animals are not subjected to risks.

ANSA specialists warn that the most efficient shelter against the periods of extreme heat should protect from the direct sun rays and allow the wind to cool the animals. If no enough room is provided to them, there is a risk of suffocation through agglomeration in shelter. It is important that each animal has enough room to simultaneously lengthen out, as this fact leads to the cooling of the organism. Sometimes, the animals’ separation in small groups can be necessary, given that the group tendency can prompt the animals to be grouped around a single source of water or feeding.
