Moldovan government approves new measures to cut industrial emissions

17:24 | 29.06.2022 Category: Official

Chisinau, 29 June /MOLDPRES/ - The cabinet today approved a draft law on the industrial emissions. The document establishes the norms meant not only to prevent and cut the noxious industrial emissions into the air, water and soil, but also to prevent the generation of waste. Moreover, the industrial installations will have to hold authorizations to be able to work, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.

Under the provisions, the system of integrated environmental authorization/environmental authorization of emissions into the air, water and soil will be set for each pollution source and not for economic agents, as it has been so far. Thus, decision-makers remove the obligation to get different types of authorizations for an activity, such as: for the emission of pollutants into atmosphere, for the evacuation of residual waters in emissary, for waste management.

The need to adopt this law is reasoned by the pressing necessity to prevent and control the pollution triggered by the industrial and economic activities, as well as by the need to adjust the national legislation and practices to the European standards in the environmental protection sector. .

The draft law on the industrial emissions was worked out with the support of the project of the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), Developing Capacities for Climate Policy in the South Eastern Europe, Eastern Europe, South Caucasus and Central Asia, the third stage. The draft law will enter into force two years after its publication in Moldova’s Official Journal.
