Chisinau, 29 June /MOLDPRES/ - The process of monitoring of the quality of waters will be improved and the residents’ access to the service of water and sewerage supply will be facilitated. The cabinet today approved a programme on management of the district of the hydrographic basin, Danube-Prut and Black Sea, cycle II, for the period 2023-2028.

According to the government’s communication and protocol department, the programme includes the characteristics of the hydrographic basin, the assessment of the state of the surface waters and the underground ones, as well as the analysis of the impact of a string of factors on the state of the water resources. Thus, due to the carrying out of the measures included in the action plan related to the Programme, decision-makers will identify cases of pollution, its sources and will notify the local and central authorities to take measures of attenuation and restoration. Therefore, the waters’ ecological and chemical condition will be improved. At the same time, enhanced attention will be paid to the economic analysis of the use of water resources.

The monitoring programme is part of the Convention on Cooperation for the Protection and Sustainable Use of the Danube River from 199. In its capacity of country candidate to accession to EU, Moldova committed to adjust its legislation in the waters sector to the Water Framework Directive of the European Union.
