Former Moldovan president remains under home arrest

Chisinau, 29 June /MOLDPRES/ - The former president of Moldova, Igor Dodon, will remain under home arrest. Magistrates of the Chisinau Court of Appeal today took a decision to this effect. They considered an appeal submitted by the former head of state on the prolongation of the home arrest by 30 days.   

According to the Prosecutor General’s Office (PG), after considering the appeal, the judges ruled to turn it down, with the maintaining of the decision by the first court on the arrest’s extension.   

Also today, the magistrates of the Chisinau Court of Appeal considered an appeal submitted by anticorruption prosecutors, by which they contested the ruling of the first court on the placement under preventive arrest of the accomplice of the former Moldovan president for a 20-day period; the prosecutors now insist on a term of 30 days of preventive arrest. Also, the concerned accomplice appealed the ruling by the first court.  

In this case, the Chisinau Court of Appeal judges maintained the decision of the Chisinau Court, Ciocana district, on the prolongation of the preventive arrest imposed on a 20-day term against the person with the capacity of accomplice in the committing of the offence of illicit enrichment.    

The former president of Moldova was detained in last mid-May; he is suspected of the committing of the offences of passive corruption, acceptance of political party’s financing by a criminal organization, high treason and illicit enrichment.
