Moldova's KFOR-17 contingent starts mission in Kosovo

Chisinau, 14 July /MOLDPRES/ - The servicemen of the 17th contingent of the National Army, detached to the KFOR peacekeeping mission, have started their activity in Kosovo.  

According to the Defence Ministry, the military took over the powers of the 16th Moldovan contingent at a ceremony on transfer of authority held at the Camp Vilaggio Italia multinational base in the Pech settlement.    

In the presence of the commander of the Regional Command West (RC-W), colonel Marco Javarone, commander of KFOR-16, lieutenant-colonel Vladimir Covalenco delivered the flag and the duties of the office to the lieutenant-colonel Vadim Birca, who is to hold this position in the next six months. At the event, the Moldovan servicemen who end their mandate in Kosovo this week were awarded the KFOR Operation Medal.    

The 17th contingent of the National Army is made up of 40 military. The Moldovan officers and non-commissioned officers will carry out operations of guard and defence of strategic importance objects, missions of ensuring the security of the Camp Vilaggio Italia base, including the Visoki Decani Monastery, as well as missions of engineering research and detection of explosive objects in the area of responsibility.
