Chisinau, 19 July /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu has come up with a message of thanks for the EU member states, after the European Council on 18 July had ruled to open even more its market for the Moldovan products.

„The European Union is the principal market where we sell our goods – 65 per cent of the Moldovan exports go there. We have managed to reach this market due to ever more closer relations with EU and the friendly conditions of access provided by the Free Trade Agreement. To help us easier overcome the crisis triggered by the war in Ukraine, the European Union decided to open even more its market for the Moldovan products, giving us possibility to export larger quantities to EU without paying customs duties,’’ the head of state said.

According to the president, exporters of tomatoes, garlic, table grapes, apples, sweet cherries, plums and grapes juice will benefit from these facilities. ‘’I thank the EU member states for the yesterday decision of the European Council – this is a solidarity gesture, which shows us that we are not alone in these difficult times,’’ Maia Sandu said.

„The European market is a large, stable, rich and predictable market, where we can export more and more, if we invest in the quality of our products, if we are competitive. And the increase in exports means the increase of the incomes of Moldovan companies, of the salaries and in the number of jobs, taxes paid to the country’s budget and, respectively, the growth of the resources available for improving the people’s quality of life,’’ the head of state said.

The European Council on 18 July adopted a decision to support the European Parliament’s position as to the measures of temporary liberalization of the trade between EU and Moldova, and thus the stages of the decision-making process ended. The quotas of export for some Moldovan agricultural products were increased and some of them even doubled.
