Chisinau, 20 July /MOLDPRES/ - The leadership of the Agriculture and Food Industry Ministry (MAIA) today met representatives of the Farmers’ Force Association. The sides tackled a string of problems in the agricultural sector, triggered by the drought from this year.
The agricultural producers filed a string of claims, among which the most important are: reestablishment of the functionality of the irrigation systems, enhancing farmers’ access to surface waters, declaring the emergency state in agriculture, exemption from taxes and penalties for the extension of the term of reimbursement of the loans provided to the farmers hit by the drought.
In the context, Agriculture Minister Vladimir Bolea said that a string of decisions would be taken till the end of this week and subsequently decision-makers would implement urgent measures to help the farming sector get out of the deadlock.
„The irrigation represents an indispensable component of the agricultural sector’s development and getting a high productivity. The productivity of the cereals this year decreased because of the extreme weather conditions. We are in a close dialogue with all public authorities, in order to manage, in an optimal period of time, to transmit seven irrigation systems for the use of the Association of Irrigation Water Users (AUAI). At the same time, on the days to come, I will have a meeting with representatives of the financial institutions, in order to agree on a postponing of certain payments for farmers. Thus, in exceptional context, till the end of this week, we will hold discussions and consultations with all relevant institutions and we will inform about the immediate steps due to be made to diminish the effects of the drought. Presently, we have meetings with external partners, in order to get new financing lines, meant to strengthen the agricultural activities,’’ Vladimir Bolea said.
