Chisinau, 21 July /MOLDPRES/ - The parliament today amended the law on animal husbandry, in order to adjust it to the European Union’s norms. The harmonization of the legislation has the goal to attract investments in the animal husbandry sector, especially the construction of animal farms and purchasing of animals.

Under the document, the new law will favour the improvement of the quality and competitiveness of the animal origin products and will allow their promotion on the domestic and external markets. At the same time, the law’s provisions are to ensure the conservation of the genetic fund of the native species of animals, as well as the organization and carrying out of the official control in the animal husbandry sector.

The draft law was worked out by the Agriculture and Food Industry Ministry. The draft’s authors foresee that, in the next 7-8 years, the number of animal farms will increase by 50 per cent and the volume of animal origin production – by 40-50 per cent on a period of five years. At the same time, the draft law envisages the decrease in prices for animal origin products delivered to processors or end consumers.
