Chisinau, 22 July /MOLDPRES/ - The cabinet today approved amendments to the national action plan on the attention of the energy crisis, in order to cope with the social and economic consequences triggered by the continuous increase in prices for natural gas and oil products, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.

The decisions are aimed at reducing the impact of the increase in prices for energy on the household consumers, backing the socially vulnerable groups and ensuring the energy security of Moldova.

Thus, the new amendments have the goal to extend and complete the plan with new actions:

* introducing new periods of financial support for the household consumers and small consumers with economic activity;

* creation of the Fund of reducing the energy vulnerability and promotion of the Law on its creation;

* creation of the Fund for energy efficiency in the residential sector, which will contribute to the efficient use of energy resources in this sector, in order to cut the cost for energy invoices;

* ensuring the enhancement of the consumers’ resilience through improvement of the electric energy market and facilitating the enhancement of the energy efficiency in the residential sector.

The change of the national action plan on the attenuation of the energy crisis is needed also through the light of accessing foreign financial assistance. Thus, Moldova might benefit from additional financial support on behalf of EU worth 75 million euros, in order to diminish the consequences of the energy crisis.
