Chisinau, 22 July /MOLDPRES/ - More than a half of Moldova’s settlements will implement local development projects within the European Village national programme. The government today approved the list of 492 projects proposed for financing. In the context, President Maia Sandu conveyed a message to the residents from the rural environment.

The official said that the projects would settle the communities’ pressing problems. ‘’Water and sewerage supply systems will be constructed in Mereni and Corjeuti. Street illumination will be set in Harbovat and Calfa. The gymnasium from Trifanesti will be thermally insulated and a photovoltaic park will be built in Carnateni, which will produce energy for the community,’’ Maia Sandu said.

At the same time, the projects will create jobs and new opportunities for communities. The progamme’s budget is of about two billion lei (about 100 million euros) – four-fold more against the investments in the local development in 2021. ‘’Moldova can advance only when also the people from our villages will feel that their lives is changing for the better. A European Moldova is a country where things work and the people live in well-being and peace,’’ the head of state said.

The contest for the selection of projects was held during March-April 2022, with 728 files on participation submitted in all. After the approval of the projects’ lists, the National Office of Regional Development is to initiate the procedure of signing contracts on financing with local public administrations. To finance winner projects, financial means allocated from the national fund for regional and local development will be used, provided for in the annual law on state budget, money earmarked from external sources, as well as other sources allowed by the law.
