Chisinau, 22 July /MOLDPRES/ - A man has been detained for influence peddling, after he would have received 5,500 euros to settle more files in court.

According to the National Anticorruption Centre (CNA), this is the second case, when the suspect was documented by anticorruption officers and prosecutors. While he was serving the preventive measure of arrest at the Penitentiary No 13, after being detained by CNA for influence peddling, the suspect learned that the man with whom he was sharing the cell was regarded in more criminal files.

Thus, when he was transferred to home arrest, the suspect met the wife of the defendant and would have proposed her to help her evade responsibility. He would have given assurances to the woman that he can influence judges of the Chisinau Court of Appeal and prosecutors who were managing the cases of her husband and would have claimed 5,500 euros bribe for his services. Shortly after, the man would have received 3,000 euros and the rest of the money was to be transferred subsequently.

During investigation measures, the man was detained by anticorruption officers and prosecutors when receiving the rest of the bribe claimed, worth 2,500 lei, - money delivered under CNA’s control.

The suspect was detained for 72 hours. If found guilty, he runs the risk of being imprisoned or of getting fine.
