Chisinau, 25 July /MOLDPRES/ - The World Trade Organization (WTO) has appreciated Moldova for the progress made in the field of commercial policies in the last seven years. A report to this effect was presented on 20-22 July in Geneva, where 17 WTO member states put questions to Moldova’s delegation.

The WTO members appreciated the country’s commitment to the multilateral commercial system established within WTO. They stressed the active participation in the WTO Committees and the involvement in those five joint initiatives, such as the Discussions on trade’s facilitation, Regulation of the electronic commerce, internal Regulation of services, Initiative on Trade and Environmental Sustainability and the Women’s Economic Empowerment Initiative. ‘’The Organization’s members appreciated the reforms undertaken by Moldova, especially the environment of regulation, trade and investments for local and international investors; protection of intellectual property rights; governmental procurements; Information and Communication Technology and the electronic commerce. More countries highlighted the improved level in the transparency sector,’’ the Economics Ministry said.

The head of the Moldovan delegation, state secretary at the Economics Ministry Vadim Gumene assured the member countries that Moldova would continue working in the sector of commercial policy, having at the basis WTO’s fundamental principles of predictability and non-discrimination of the WTO members.

The third consideration of Moldova’s commercial policies within WTO will take place in seven years, preliminarily in 2029. The revision of the commercial policies and practices is periodically applied on all members. Moldova covers this exercise once in seven years and the first evaluation took place in 2015.
