Diaspora's problems in legislative process discussed in Moldovan capital

Chisinau, 26 July /MOLDPRES/ - Diaspora in the legislative process was the title of a conference held today under the aegis of the programme, Diaspora NET, organized by the International Republican Institute, with the support of the National Endowment for Democracy.   

The goal of the Diaspora NET conference was to focus energies and resources, in order to identify solutions to the common challenges faced both by the Moldovan Diaspora and by Moldova. At the workshop, presentations and discussions took place on the experiences of the Diaspora communities from other states in the creation of sustainable networks, accessing of support, Diaspora’s positioning as partner and actor of development.  

„It is quite beneficial the fact that we have more lawmakers from Diaspora in parliament, who might make a separate faction within the faction they are members of. Along with them, we do our utmost to cease the exodus, as to our great sorrow, many Moldovans still leave abroad looking for a better living. We will seek, in continuation, efficient solutions, just as the facilitation of the recognition of education diplomas, driver’s licences, consolidation of social assistance projects, pensions’ transferring, etc.,’’ Deputy Parliament Speaker Mihai Popsoi said at the event.  

The sessions of the conference were aimed at identifying the main challenges faced by the Moldovans from the country and those settled abroad, generating ideas, exploring potential solutions and partnerships.

Founded in 1983, the International Republican Institute (IRI) is a non-profit organization committed to promote the democracy and freedom through workshops of experts volunteers all over the world. IRI has been working in Moldova since 2003.
