Chisinau, 26 July /MOLDPRES/ - The police in the last 24 hours have registered two false alerts on the placement of explosive objects in 43 locations, of which 23 in Chisinau, 13 in Balti and seven ones in the Autonomous Territorial Unit Gagauz-Yeri.

According to the General Police Inspectorate (IGP), the author of one call was identified and is prosecuted by the criminal prosecution body.

Since early 2022, law-enforcers have recorded 43 untrue communications as to the placement of explosive objects in 207 locations. Law-enforcers accumulated evidence on all cases registered and submitted it to the Prosecutor General’s Office (PG).

Thus, the police investigated the origin of the signals, both phone ones and through email. The phone calls proved to have been made from Moldova and the messages were sent via email – from outside the country, which implies the involvement of international support organizations in the investigation process.

Under the Criminal Code, the person guilty of untrue deliberate communication about the preparation of explosions runs the risk of getting a fine worth from 27,500 lei (about 1,375 euros) up to 42,500 lei, 240 hours of non-remunerated work for the benefit of the community or up to 2 years of imprisonment.

At the same time, the Interior Ministry worked out a draft law on the enhancement of the punishment with imprisonment and increase in fines for those who issue false information about the placement of explosive objects. Thus, the ministry proposes a punishment between 2 and 5 years of imprisonment and the ceiling of fines should grow beginning with 50,000 lei up to 150,000 lei at the most. The amendments also see a punishment of up to 12 years of imprisonment, in serious circumstances.
