Moldovan parliament adopts law on population and housing census

Chisinau, 28 July /MOLDPRES/ - The parliament voted the draft law establishing the general norms for the organization and conducing of the population and housing censuses in the final reading today.
The document was worked out by the National Statistics Bureau (BNS), with the support of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA). Its goal is to optimize the organization and carrying out of censuses, through cutting administrative and budgetary resources needed.
At the same time, the new law regulates the process of planning, collection, processing, assessment and dissemination of data on people and their dwellings, as well as the carrying out of the census statistics indicators.
The document envisages that the next censuses should be conducted at regular time intervals of at least once in 10 years. Their goal will be to provide information about the population and dwellings – necessary for the elaboration, monitoring and evaluation of policies.
According to BNS, the next census is planned to be conducted in Moldova in 2024. Its estimated budget will be of 329.2 million lei (about 16.4 million euros), of which about 36.8 million lei - for the agricultural module.
