First Accelerator of Social Entrepreneurship launched in Moldovan capital

Chisinau, 29 July /MOLDPRES/ - The first Accelerator of Social Entrepreneurship – Centru Region today was launched by Moldova’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI), with the European Union’s financial support.    

The Accelerator represents a regional hub of backing the social entrepreneurship, which will contribute to the economic growth and well-being of citizens and communities. The hub was opened through a grant worth 45,000 euros, provided by the European Union, got through open tender by CCI.  

„The social business is a business concept aimed at solving the problems from the society, where these businesses operate, a concept which is widely and successfully practiced in the European Union member states. The economic inclusion of young people and vulnerable persons is one of the key benefits of the social entrepreneurship. The European Union supports the launch and extension of the concept of social business in Moldova, including through grants,’’ a representative of the EU delegation in Moldova, Gintautas Baranauskas, said.  

According to CCI president Sergiu Harea, in the last years, the Chamber, which represents the interests of the business from Moldova, had fully got involved in the development of the social entrepreneurship. Or, within the regional centre, launched today, entrepreneurs will benefit from all business support services and instruments.        

„Now, when Moldova has got the status of country candidate for accession to the European Union, we are to transpose European standards and practices nationally, to ensure a normative framework friendly to the starting and developing of social businesses and to promote products and services of entrepreneurs who contribute to the involvement of people belonging to disadvantaged groups in economic activities. During two years of project's implementation, CCI is set to focus its efforts in the social economy sector through the continuous development of the Accelerator of social business both in the Centru region and in other settlements,’’ CCI president Sergiu Harea said. 

The hub was inaugurated within the project titled, We turn to good account the civil society’s potential for the promotion and development of the social entrepreneurship in Moldova, financed by the European Union, co-financed by Sweden and implemented by the East European Foundation in partnership with Keystone Moldova and Contact Centre.
