Chisinau, 2 Aug. /MOLDPRES/- Bactericidal recirculators, donated by the European Union have been installed in 40 percent of the trolleybuses in the capital. The devices are meant to purify the air in public transport, a necessary measure in the context of the increase in the number of cases of COVID-19.

Director of the Chisinau Electric Transport Authority (RTEC) Dorin Ciornîi said that the recirculators absorb the air from the means of transport, purify it through a bactericidal lamp and eliminate it in a pure form.

"The devices were installed in 70 trolleybuses. By September 1, they will be placed in 286 means of transport. Two bactericidal recirculators are installed in each trolleybus. The work takes place at night. In total, RTEC benefited from 572 devices," said Dorin Ciornîi.

The management of RTEC emphasized that the purifiers will improve air quality in public transport. "In the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, they will contribute to providing greater safety to people using trolleybuses in the capital, as the risk of infection will be minimized," Ciornîi said.

The devices were purchased within the EU project MOVE IT like Lublin for the modernization of the public transport system of the municipality of Chisinau. It provides for a grant worth 3.3 million euros, money granted by the European Union. The initiative is implemented by the capital city hall, jointly with the city of Lublin in Poland.
