Omicron variant of SARS-CoV-2 spread in Moldova, ANSP says

Chisinau, 2 Aug. /MOLDPRES/- The National Agency for Public Health (ANSP) announced today that it has received the results of the samples sent to the Institute of Virology in Berlin, Germany, in order to effectively monitor the spread of SARS-CoV-2 strains in Moldova.
In all 40 samples, the SARS-CoV-2 virus, Omicron variant, with different sublineage types (BA.5.2.1; BA.5.1; BA.2.12.1; BA.5.2 and BA .2.9) was found.
The samples were selected from different regions of the country in June - July 2022 and sent, with the support of the World Health Organization, to the WHO Reference Laboratory in Berlin. These were confirmed by molecular biology techniques (rRT-PCR) and subjected to pre-screening in the Virological Laboratory of ANSP.
According to the statistics presented by the Ministry of Health, in the last week the number of people infected with COVID-19 in our country has increased significantly and reached the figure of almost 10 thousand.
