New country representative of Office of UN High Commissioner for Refugees started work in Moldova

Chisinau, Aug. 3 /MOLDPRES/- The head of diplomacy from Chisinau Nicu Popescu talked with Francesca Bonelli, country representative of the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees in the Republic of Moldova, on the occasion of the start of the mandate in the new position, the MAEIE press service has reported.
The officials referred to cooperation priorities with the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees in support of the government's efforts to manage the humanitarian crisis generated by the war.
Minister Nicu Popescu thanked for the recent participation in the Support Platform of the Republic of Moldova held in Bucharest, as well as for the assistance provided to public institutions in order to strengthen the institutional capacities to respond to the refugee crisis.
Another topic discussed was vulnerable refugees, people with disabilities, victims of violence or human trafficking. The UN official emphasized that the agency is ready to support the authorities in case of a new wave of refugees.
"I expressed full openness in promoting joint efforts in order to overcome the implications of the refugee crisis", pointed out the Minister of Foreign Affairs Nicu Popescu.
