Over 100 antipersonnel mines neutralized by military sappers in Răscăieți

Chisinau, Aug. 3 /MOLDPRES/- Sappers from Codru Battalion destroyed today an arsenal of ammunition from the World War II period, found near the village of Răscăieți, Ștefan Vodă district.

According to Battalion commander Gheorghe Racu, the explosive objects were found on a field, following agricultural works. After searching the ground, the military discovered more than 100 anti-personnel mines, two RGD hand grenades, an anti-tank grenade and a 100 mm projectile, all of German manufacture.

The ammunition arsenal, which had been in the ground for over 70 years, had an increased degree of wear and presented a danger during transportation, therefore it was neutralized on the spot.

From the beginning of this year until now, military engineers have executed 111 demining missions, as a result of which 297 explosive objects of various types and 11,026 cartridges were neutralized.
