National Commission for European Integration has nine new members

Chisinau, 4 Aug. /MOLDPRES/- President Maia Sandu convened this morning the National Commission for European Integration (CNIE), to approve several decisions aimed at the European integration process of the Republic of Moldova, the presidential press service has reported.

The composition of the Commission was expanded, in which more representatives of local authorities and civil society were invited to join - nine new members:

1. Irina Vlah, governor of Gagauzia;

2. Dmitri Constantinov, president of the People's Assembly of Gagauzia;

3. Nicolae Dandiș, mayor of Cahul and vice-president of the Congress of Local Authorities from Moldova (CALM);

4. Viorel Furdui, executive director of CALM;

5. Iulian Groza, representative of the National Platform of the Civil Society Forum of the Eastern Partnership;

6. Ian Feldman, President of the Council for the Prevention of Discrimination and Ensuring Equality;

7. Dmitri Lecartev, administrator of the National Congress of Ukrainians from Moldova;

8. Igor Zubcu, president of the National Confederation of Trade Unions from Moldova;

9. Leonid Cerescu, president of the National Confederation of Employers from Moldova.

They also discussed changes proposed in the public consultations to complete the Action Plan for the implementation of the measures proposed by the European Commission in its Opinion on the application for the accession of the Republic of Moldova to the EU. The plan contains actions that must be carried out in the following months in order to advance in Moldova's accession process, in several areas:

● Justice reform and the fight against corruption

● Fixing the deficiencies in the electoral legislation;

● De-oligarization, strengthening the fight against organized crime and asset recovery;

● Strengthening the capacity of public administration and managing public finances;

● Involvement of civil society in decision-making processes, as well as

● Strengthening the protection of human rights and combating gender-based violence.

The plan was approved and will be published after incorporating the changes adopted at today's meeting. Also today, the inter-institutional coordination mechanism of the European integration process was discussed, which will be finalized by the Government in the coming weeks.

"The European integration of the Republic of Moldova is our country project, which we will advance at a sustained pace, despite the complicated circumstances in which we currently find ourselves. In this way, we want to offer citizens the prospect of a better life and more opportunities here, at home", said Maia Sandu.
