Chisinau, August 8 /MOLDPRES/- More than 3,700 COVID-19 cases were registered last week in the capital, about 1,000 more than the previous week. The announcement was made today by the deputy head of the General Directorate of Medical and Social Assistance (DGAMS), Marina Buga, at the operational meeting of the municipal services.
During this period, seven people died as a result of complications caused by COVID-19. “The dominant strain is Omicron. There is an increase in the number of coronavirus cases in the suburbs of the capital. Most often, adults are treated at home, being monitored by the family doctor. 358 patients are hospitalized in the capital's hospitals, 61 of them are in serious condition. There is a greater pressure on medical institutions where children with mild and moderate forms are hospitalized. Currently, there are 440 vacant beds in municipal hospitals. At the same time, we have all the necessary medicines and medical equipment", said Marina Buga.
The management of the department specified that most infected people are unvaccinated. "We recommend citizens to immunize themselves with all doses of the vaccine. We also recommend wearing protective masks in crowded public spaces and on public transport. At the same time, wearing it is mandatory in medical institutions", said Marina Buga.
According to DGAMS, 51% of Chisinau residents are vaccinated against the COVID-19 virus. At the same time, 25% of the capital's residents administered their vaccine booster dose.
