Chisinau, August 8 /MOLDPRES/- The magistrates of the Chisinau District Court, Râșcani headquarters, rejected the request submitted by the State Chancellery regarding the suspension of the provision to increase the new tariffs in public transport in the city of Chisinau.
According to the City Hall of Chisinau, the court rejected "as unfounded" the request against the general mayor of the capital and the Chisinau Municipal Council.
Following the approval of the new tariffs, the Chisinau territorial office of the State Chancellery challenged in court the disposition of capital's mayor Ion Ceban, arguing that "it is not the mayor's competence to set the tariffs for public passenger transport, the responsibility rests with the Chisinau Municipal Council". At the same time, the State Chancellery requested the cancellation of the new tariffs.
For his part, Ceban described the action as "an attack on the local public administration".
Starting from 1 July the price of a ticket for traveling by trolleybus or bus in Chisinau and its suburbs is 6 lei, compared to 2 lei previously for a trip by trolleybus and 3 lei – by bus. At the same time, the fee for a minibus trip was increased from 3 to 6 lei.
