Over 8,500 foreigners submitted asylum applications in Moldova

Chisinau, August 8 /MOLDPRES/- More than 8,500 asylum applications in the Republic of Moldova have been submitted to the Migration and Asylum Office since the beginning of the war in Ukraine.
Spokesperson of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MAI) Daniel Mazepa said that currently, there are 76,121 Ukrainian citizens in the country.
"Of the total number of people, 41,696 are minors, and 34,425 are adults. Recently, the number of submitted requests has decreased, with around 100 requests being processed weekly", said Daniel Mazepa.
According to the legislation, foreign citizens can be on the territory of the Republic of Moldova temporarily, they can apply for a residence permit or they can obtain one of the four forms of protection generically called "asylum": refugee status, humanitarian protection, temporary protection and political asylum.
