US government to provide grant for economic growth in Moldova

Chisinau, August 10 /MOLDPRES/- The Republic of Moldova will benefit from additional funding of 63 million dollars from the Government of the United States of America (USA) as a grant under the two agreements signed by the Government of the Republic of Moldova and the Government of the USA on 28 September 2016.

The government approved in today's meeting the projects regarding the initiation of negotiations and the approval of the signing of two Amendments to the Assistance Agreement for the consolidation of participatory democracy and to the Assistance Agreement regarding the development objective for sustainable economic growth anchored in European integration, whose implementation deadline is 31 December 2025.

The amendment to the Assistance Agreement for the consolidation of participatory democracy provides for the granting of additional funding in the amount of 16.7 million dollars, increasing the total value of the Agreement to approximately 113 million dollars. "Financial resources will be used to increase citizens' involvement, strengthen the responsiveness of public institutions and reduce the vulnerability of democratic institutions and processes", indicates the Ministry of Finance.

Also, the total amount of the Assistance Agreement regarding the development objective for sustainable economic growth anchored in European integration will be supplemented, through the approved Amendment, with 46.3 million dollars. The allocation of these resources will increase the total funds committed to date under the Agreement to approximately $153.2 million in grant assistance. The financial resources will be used to increase access to the European Union market and other international markets and increase competitiveness in the transforming sectors.
