Chisinau, Aug. 17 /MOLDPRES/- Ungheni city hall urged those impressed by the locality to participate in a photography contest, dedicated to the 560th anniversary of the first attestation of Ungheni city. The works can be sent up to 20 August.
"Do you have photos in which places of Ungheniu are immortalized? Send them for the contest announced by Dimitrie Cantemir library. If not, you still have time to photograph what impresses you in the municipality of Ungheni. Don't miss the opportunity to show people what, perhaps, they haven't seen yet", says Ungheni city hall.
Ungheni is one of the oldest towns in the Republic of Moldova. Its first documentary attestation dates from August 20, 1462, in a charter from the ruler Stefan cel Mare. Initially, the locality was called Unghiul, probably from the configuration of the place on which it was established. Here the river Prut forms a perfect angle through a sudden turn. Only after two centuries, in 1645, the settlement appears mentioned with its current name, Ungheni.
