Moldovan deputy premier to attend meeting of EU foreign ministers

Chisinau, August 30 /MOLDPRES/- Foreign Minister Nicu Popescu will lead the Moldovan delegation to an informal meeting of the foreign ministers of the European Union states, due to be held on 30-31 August in Prague, the Czech Republic.

According to MAEIE's public diplomacy, strategic communication and media relations service, during the meeting, at the invitation of Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic Jan Lipavský, the country that holds the presidency of the Council of the European Union, ministers will approach on 31 August the geopolitical challenges, the European perspectives for the Republic of Moldova, Ukraine and Georgia (the associated Trio countries) and the future of the Eastern Partnership.

Popescu will talk to the heads of European diplomacy about the security situation in Moldova and the region in the context of the war in Ukraine, the socio-economic impact on our country and joint efforts of the authorities in the reforms and modernization during the accession to the European Union.

Also, Popescu will have bilateral meetings with Hadja Lahbib, Minister of Foreign, European Affairs and Foreign Trade of Belgium, Urmas Reinsalu, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Estonia, Tanja Fajon, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Slovenia, Ann Linde, Foreign Minister of Sweden, Jean Asselborn, Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of Luxembourg, José Manuel Albares, Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation of Spain, Dmytro Kuleba, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Ilia Darchiashvili, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, Robert G. Berschinski, Special Assistant to the President and Senior Director of the National Security Council for Democracy and Human Rights at the US National Security Council and other senior officials.

Gymnich meeting of EU foreign ministers is named after the place where the first informal meeting took place in 1974. At this year's meeting, European ministers will discuss two main topics: the Russian Federation's aggression against Ukraine and the EU's relations with Africa.
