Moldovan electoral body sets ceiling of financial means that can be used for new local elections

Chisinau, August 30 /MOLDPRES/- The Central Electoral Commission (CEC) established today the ceiling of the financial means that can be transferred to the account - For initiative group and used to support the independent candidate for the position of mayor in the new local elections on 16 October.

According to CEC, the ceiling of financial means for the electoral constiturncy of Sălcuta is 1768.86 lei; Ialpujeni constituency, Cimișlia district - 1426.50 lei and for Braniște constituency, Râșcani district - 1426.50 lei.

According to the Commission, the citizen of the Republic of Moldova can be submitted as an independent candidate to be elected mayor if he is supported by 5 percent of the voters in the constituency, but not less than 150 people and not more than 10 thousand people. Funds transferred to the account - For initiative group can be used to collect signatures.

At the same time, the CEC established the general ceiling of the financial means that can be transferred to the Electoral Fund account and used by the electoral contestants. The financial means ceiling for Sălcuța electoral constituency is 35,358.18 lei; for Ialpujeni constituency - 12,153.78 lei and for Braniște constituency - 9,567.06 lei.

Also, the amount of interest-free credit granted to electoral contestants was established, within the limit of the maximum ceiling established per electoral district, but not more than 25 thousand lei for each party, socio-political organization or electoral block and not more than 5 000 lei for each independent candidate.

Sanctions may be applied for the violation of the way of recording and using the means from the account For initiative group or from the account Electoral fund. At the same time, exceeding the ceiling of the financial means that can be used by the electoral competitor for the electoral campaign and by the initiative groups may lead to the cancellation of his registration.
