Chisinau, 3 Sep. /MOLDPRES/- President of the Republic of Moldova Maia Sandu, Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces participated today in a ceremony dedicated to the 31st anniversary of the National Army. The head of state addressed a cordial message to the officers, conscripts and all employees of the Armed Forces of the country and conferred several state awards, the presidential press service has reported.

In her speech, Maia Sandu said that the National Army was and remains an essential pillar of our state. "We honored the sacrifice of veterans and fallen heroes in the fight for our independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity. I welcomed the presence of the military on duty whenever the Republic of Moldova faced natural calamities, but also during the Covid-19 pandemic or when managing the flow of refugees in the spring," said Maia Sandu.

The Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces also appreciated the way in which the Moldovan military represents us in international peacekeeping missions. "I also emphasized that there is a need to strengthen the defense capacity of the army, especially now, when an unjust and cruel war is taking place right on our border. A strong, modern and well-equipped army gives the country confidence in its own forces, freedom of action and strategic options, in case of danger", Maia Sandu said.

During the event, which was hosted by the Ministry of Defense, as a sign of appreciation for the impeccable fulfillment of the duty to the homeland and for the contribution to the consolidation and development of the national defense system, Maia Sandu conferred state awards on several military and civilian employees of the National Army.
