Chisinau, 5 Sep. /MOLDPRES/- The Supreme Security Council (CSS) has proposed several legislative changes on execution of the act of justice, which will create the necessary mechanisms to move forward in large corruption cases and avoid information leaks. President Maia Sandu made the statement today following the CSS meeting.

According to the president, the meeting focused on the progress and existing obstacles in administering justice, as well as combating and countering terrorist actions.

"An important topic was the advancement of investigations in corruption cases. We discussed information leaks, which proves that there is corruption in the system. Thus, we need stricter mechanisms for holding employees accountable in order to achieve finality on large corruption cases. There was also talk about how investigations are being conducted. The General Prosecutor presented a report on several cases already submitted to the court, but which did not reach the sentencing stage. That's why we asked for solutions from the Superior Council of Magistracy to be able to advance to the stage where the case is already in court," said Maia Sandu.

She pointed out that the Anticorruption Prosecutor's Office imposed seizures on a total amount of 7 billion lei (about 350 million euros). "We want this money to be not only seized, but also confiscated in the state budget, that's why it is necessary to strengthen the Agency for the Recovery of Criminal Assets. At the same time, we emphasized the need to apply the extended confiscation mechanism. Another important topic was the abuse of rights by the defense lawyers, which delays the examination of the cases. It is necessary to eliminate these instruments that affect the act of justice", said Maia Sandu.

In terms of countering terrorist actions, the head of state noted that bomb alerts, which have witnessed an increase in the recent period would aim to destabilize the situation in the country. "Most alerts concerned the courts of law, which means that once again the court process is being delayed. The Intelligence and Security Service and the Ministry of Internal Affairs have prepared a mechanism that will allow the examination of risks, thus intervention will be made according to this assessment", the president said.

The legal institutions are to finalize the initiatives and programs agreed in the CSS meeting, in order to create the necessary mechanisms that will boost the execution of the act of justice.
