Moldovan foreign affairs minister has more meetings in Oslo

Chisinau, 6 September /MOLDPRES/ - Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Affairs and European Integration Minister Nicu Popescu has had a meeting with Foreign Affairs Minister of Norway Anniken Huitfeldt, during his working visit to Oslo, the Foreign Affairs and European Integration Ministry’s (MAEIE) press service has reported.

The discussions with the Norwegian diplomacy head were focused on a wide spectrum of subjects, such as the bilateral cooperation, the need to strengthen the energy security and the positive impact of the Norwegian assistance for Moldova’s development.  

The officials referred to the developments of the Moldova-EU dialogue, given the providing of the status of country candidate and the reforms undertaken by the authorities, in order to advance in the European integration, as well as about the regional situation and the measures taken by the Moldovan authorities, in order to attenuate the impact of the Russian military aggression in Ukraine.    

A special subject was the exchange of ideas on the strengthening of the institutional capacities, as well as the energy and financial resilience. Norway’s solidarity was felt at the two conferences of donors held in Berlin and Bucharest, within the Moldova Support Platform. Foreign Affairs Minister Nicu Popescu expressed interest in the advancement of negotiations on the Free Trade Agreement between Moldova and the European Free Trade Agreement (EFTA) member states, thus contributing to the boosting of the commercial and economic relations through the conclusion of bilateral agreements on the presence of Moldovan farmers’ products on the Norwegian market.   

„Norway remains an important partner on the way of our reforms, especially in the justice sector and promotion of the supremacy of law, fighting corruption, good governance, which will bring concrete benefits in our communities towards the European development,’’ the Moldovan diplomacy head said.   

Norway is an important producer of oil and gas from Europe – with a production which significantly contributes to the energy security of the European continent. In this context, Minister Nicu Popescu had a discussion with Norwegian Minister Oil and Energy Terje Aasland in Oslo.   

„We discussed the need of coordination and solidarity, which we should prove to overcome the crisis situation.  We want to get involved in a continuous dialogue on the establishment of a long-term energy partnership for the benefit of the citizens and the national economy,’’ Deputy PM Nicu Popescu added.
