File generally titled Energocom sent to court in Moldova

Chisinau, 9 September /MOLDPRES/ - The Prosecutor General’s Office (PG) today informed that it had sent to court the criminal file generally titled Energocom on the accusation of the former Moldova’s president.    

According to PG, within this criminal file, the former head of state is charged with the offence of exceeding power by a person holding a public office in the interest of an organized crime ring (Article 46, Article 328, paragraph (3) of the Criminal Code).   

Prosecutors say that the charge formulated against the former Moldovan president refers to his actions carried out in 2008-2009, when he held the position of first deputy prime minister, minister of economy and commerce. He is accused of the fact that, while holding the office of first deputy PM, minister of economy and commerce, in May 2008 he signed a notification which favoured the conclusion by the director general of the Energocom stock company with a foreign company from Hungary of a contract on the purchasing of electric energy for Moldova, in an amount of 2,320,000,000 kw/h for the period May 2008-June 2009, contrary to the legal provisions.    

Following the aforementioned actions, damages in particularly large amounts of 11,927,173 dollars were caused to the state in the person of the Energocom stock company; these financial means were subsequently transferred to accounts of offshore companies.
