Chisinau, 12 Sep. /MOLDPRES/- Pupils of pre-university education institutions in the Republic of Moldova will be able to participate in decision-making in the distribution of a part of the school budget for the problems identified in the institution where they study, the Ministry of Education and Research (MEC) has reported.

In 2022-2024, the Participatory Budgeting Project will be implemented in ten educational institutions in the country. For its implementation and selection of participating institutions, the Promo-LEX Association and the Ministry of Education and Research signed a Memorandum of Understanding.

Under document, participatory budgeting is an effective method of democratic decision-making that develops understanding of school budgets, encourages pupil leadership, directs funds to pressing needs and innovative ideas, and helps pupils appreciate democracy and civic engagement.

Secondary education institutions (gymnasiums and high schools), technical vocational education institutions (vocational schools, colleges, centers of excellence), special education institutions (special institution, auxiliary school), as well as institutions on the left bank of the Dniester are eligible to participate in the program, subordinated to the Ministry of Education and Research of the Republic of Moldova, both public and private.

The program is implemented within the Democracy, Transparency and Responsibility Program, carried out by the Promo-LEX Association with the financial support of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
