Moldovan parliament speaker has meeting with country representative of Office of United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees

Chisinau, 12 September /MOLDPRES/ - Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu today had a meeting with the country representative of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNCHR) in Moldova, Francesca Bonelli, who has recently started her mandate in the new position, the parliament’s communication and public relations department has reported.    

The discussions were focused, in particular, on the Ukrainian refugees and the problems they face. The officials agreed on continuing efforts, so that tens of thousands of Ukrainian citizens from Moldova are involved in the education system, employed, benefit from medical and social assistance. ‘’Certainly, together we will continue to be with the refugees and to take the best decisions for the benefit of everybody,’’ the parliament speaker said.    

Among the subjects discussed at the meeting, there were also the amendments to the national legislation, meant to ensure a better protection and inclusion of the refugees in Moldova, such as the status of temporary protection, facilitation of the process of employment, etc.

The United Nations Refugee Agency manages centres of registration for providing financial support to refugees from Ukraine, who are now in Moldova. These centres are meant for providing pre-paid cards. Mobile teams are available to reach the people who have not physical possibility to move to the centres available.
