Festival of Ethnic Minorities to be held in Moldova on 17-18 September

Chisinau, 15 September /MOLDPRES/ - The Republican Festival of Ethnic Minorities titled, Unity through Diversity, will be organized in the Moldovan capital and the southern Taraclia city on 17-18 September.  

According to the Interethnic Relations Agency, the festival’s goal is to turn to good account and perpetuate the traditions of the national minorities, as well as develop the inter-cultural dialogue, strengthen the friendship relations between representatives of various ethnic minorities who live in Moldova. Thus, after a two-year break because of the pandemic, the festival will take place in the Taraclia city (Central Square) on 17 September and in Chisinau on 18 September.  

In the Taraclia city, the festival will begin with a parade of national costumes and of artistic bands, who along with the officials will participate in a ceremony of laying flowers at the monument to Stephen the Great from the city. After the planting of a tree and the Festival’s inauguration, the guests are expected in the ethnic yards arranged to see the exhibitions of decorative and applied art, as well as workmanship. Also, representatives of ethnic minorities will present their national cuisine. A musical show with the participation of artistic bands and ethnic and cultural organizations from Moldova will be held on the main stage during the day. The event will end with the Big Round Dance of the Festival of Ethnic Minorities.      

In Chisinau, the festival will be inaugurated in the Stephen the Great Public Garden on 18 September, where an artistic schedule of events with traditional elements of the culture of ethnic minorities will be presented. The guests will be able to visit the ethnic yards, watch shows of well-known artists and the bands of the national minorities from Moldova. Cultural activities will be held in other Moldovan districts too.    

The Republican Festival of Ethnic Minorities is at its 21st issue. This year about 40 ethnic and cultural organizations, which represent 35 ethnic groups and 16 artistic bands from Moldovan districts will participate in the festival this year. The event is organized by the Interethnic Relations Agency, in partnership with the Chisinau city hall, Coordination Council of the ethnic and cultural organizations and the local public authorities.
