Meeting of Romanian National Theatres, seventh edition, to be held in Moldovan capital

Chisinau, 15 September /MOLDPRES/ - A number of 17 theatres from Moldova and Romania will participate in the seventh edition of the Meeting of Romanian National Theatres, titled, Artists for Peace, Freedom, Hope, due to be held at the headquarters of the Chisinau-based Mihai Eminescu National Theatre (TNME) on 15-28 September.  

At a news conference, TNME director Petru Hadarca said that another 17 theatres from both banks of Prut river took part in the event, along with the Mihai Eminescu National Theatre.

According to Hadarca, the Meeting’s agenda is rich, varied and interesting: 24 plays in theatre halls, nine hearings of radio plays, book launches, film screenings, exhibitions of photos, workshops and master-classes, online events, discussions, etc.  

Attending the event, Moldova’s Culture Minister Sergiu Prodan and Culture Minister of Romania Lucian Romascanu, the president of the Romanian Cultural Institute, Liviu Jicman, and the head of the Theatre Union of Romania, Dragos Buhagiar, referred to the financial contribution of the institutions they lead to the backing of the current issue of the Meeting. Thus, Culture Minister Sergiu Prodan said the 2022 year edition was special, as all national theatres from Romania participate in it. The official noted that the participation of the theatre from Kiev was an important moment of the support of the Ukrainian nation, which goes through a war.     

The event is organized with the support of the Culture Ministries of Romania and Moldova, the Bucharest and Chisinau Romanian Cultural Institute, Swiss Cooperation Office in Moldova.   

For the second year in a row, the Meeting of National Theatres enjoys the honour of the high presidential patronage provided by Presidents Maia Sandu and Klaus Iohannis, through which the priority of the peaceful, conciliating and creative instruments is recognized.    

The Meeting will open today at 18:30 with the play, The Trap, according to the work, The Flight, by Mikhail Bulgakov, stage management of Petru Hadarca, and will end on 28 September, at 18:00, with the play, Frunze de Dor (Love Leaves) by Ion Druta, stage management of Alexandru Cozub.
