Moldovan parliament speaker has meeting with President of Great National Assembly of Turkey

Chisinau, 15 September /MOLDPRES/ - Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu today had a meeting with his counterpart, President of the Great National Assembly of Turkey Mustafa Șentop, on a two-day official visit to Chisinau. The discussions were focused on a wide range of subjects, such as the bilateral cooperation, need to strengthen the energy security and the positive impact of the Turkish assistance for developing Moldova’s settlements, the parliament’s communication and public relations department has reported.    

As for the boosting of the parliamentary diplomacy, the two speakers discussed bilateral projects, especially on the line of the specialty parliamentary commissions. ‘’We must open new doors for Moldova, so that all the world sees us as a country which knows what it wants and can succeed,’’ Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu said.    

The officials paid increased attention to the fostering of the commercial exchanges and Turkish investments in Moldova’s economy. The Moldovan speaker thanked Turkey for the assistance provided during those 30 years of friendship, especially for the help given during the pandemic, as well as the humanitarian assistance received for the Ukrainian refugees, after Russia’s invasion in Ukraine. Also, during years, through the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA), over 400 projects worth more than 400 million euros have been implemented. ‘’The visit by Mr. Mustafa Sentop to Chisinau is important for Moldova. Turkey is an important economic partner and which has invested and invests much in the Moldovan economy,’’ the Moldovan parliament speaker said.   

The officials discussed also the complicated situation in the region. ‘’Turkey plays an important role in the process of negotiations and finding of peaceful solutions to cease this unjust war of Russia in Ukraine.’’ Igor Grosu said. Also, in the context of the world energy crisis, the parliament speaker stressed that the current governance was looking for the best solutions to get over the forthcoming winter.    

The officials also discussed Moldova’s status of country candidate for accession to EU, which prompts the authorities to be more resolute in the implementation of reforms in justice, which remains the zero priority, improving the business environment, improving the citizens’ living standards.  

President of the Great national Assembly of Turkey Mustafa Șentop pays a visit to Moldova on 15-16 September. During two days, the Turkish official will have discussions with the heads of the parliamentary commissions, representatives of Moldova’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Investments Agency. Mustafa Șentop will also visit the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia, where he will have meetings with the local administration and will assess the social objects renovated due to Turkey’s support in the last years.
