Chisinau, 15 September /MOLDPRES/ - Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Affairs and European Integration Minister Nicu Popescu, Foreign Affairs Minister of Romania Bogdan Aurescu and Foreign Affairs Minister of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba, as well as Deputy Prime Minister, Infrastructure and Regional Development Minister Andrei Spinu, Energy Minister of Romania Virgil Popescu, Energy Minister of Ukraine German Galushchenko today assembled in Odessa at the first informal meeting in this format, the Foreign Affairs and European Integration Ministry’s (MAEIE) public diplomacy, strategic communication and media interaction service has reported.

„I thank my counterpart Dmytro Kuleba for the invitation made to me and Minister Bogdan Aurescu at the trilateral meeting Moldova – Ukraine – Romania, with the participation of the foreign affairs and energy ministers of our countries. I today visited along with Deputy PM Andrei Spinu and Ministers Virgil Popescu and German Galushchenko the Odessa city. I conveyed our friend Bogdan Aurescu the appreciation for the unconditional support provided to Moldova and Ukraine for our European aspirations. The interaction of our countries is natural and extremely important for the energy solidarity, being an extra proof of the friendly relations and the close political and economic relations,’’ Minister Nicu Popescu said.

The Moldovan official noted that our countries can act quickly and in the direction of coordinating joint efforts, including through the synchronization of the electric systems of our countries with European Network of Transmission System Operators for Electricity (ENTSO-E). And this meeting allows us seeding up the legal and administrative instruments, in order to fully benefit from this gradual integration with the European Union in the energy sector.

„Obviously, these efforts come in extremely difficult times for our states, for the entire continent, when the international order based on rules is defied through Russia’s military aggression against the independent, sovereign and democratic state Ukraine.

In my speech, given in the Romanian language, I said that the Courage presently had a name and this name is Ukraine. The Freedom of Ukraine is our Freedom,’’ Deputy PM Nicu Popescu stressed.

The Moldovan diplomacy head reconfirmed the leadership’s firm support for Ukraine and the firm condemnation of the Russian aggression, expressing support for Ukraine’s territorial integrity in the internationally recognized borders. The officials also discussed the nuclear security around the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, with Moldova backing the need of its demilitarization.

„By initiating this trilateral format, we have made a joint step towards the European integration, through concrete measures in the energy sector. We prove a natural, responsible and European approach, willing to contribute to the most successful project of peace – European Union,’’ Deputy PM Nicu Popescu said.
