Chisinau, 16 Sep. /MOLDPRES/- Our planet is our home. Let's keep it clean! is the title of a campaign, launched today in Moldova, financed by the European Union and implemented by the United Nations Environment Programme. The campaign aims to present solutions for a sustainable lifestyle.

The campaign aligns with the initiative of the World Cleanup Day 2022, marked this year on September 17, as well as with the policies underway in Moldova. World Cleanup Day 2022 brings together millions of volunteers, governments and organizations from 191 countries to tackle the global problem of waste and build a more sustainable world.

This year, the Republic of Moldova also joins the initiative. Moldovan officials, representatives of diplomatic missions, civic activists and young people will organize clean-up actions in their localities, thus raising public awareness of the issue of waste and supporting the global ecological movement.

In the Republic of Moldova, proper waste management and sustainable mobility have been identified as areas that people can support to minimize environmental pollution, improve their health, well-being and save money at the same time. It has been estimated that each person generates 310 kg of waste annually in the Republic of Moldova, while road transport is responsible for 98% of the greenhouse gases that largely contribute to air pollution – a major factor in respiratory diseases.
