Chisinau, 20 Sep. /MOLDPRES/- In Molovata, Dubăsari district, a photovoltaic system was installed that puts the water pumping station into operation and ensures water supply to the households in the village.

According to UNDP Moldova, Molovata village is located right on the bank of the Dniester river, but due to drought and bad weather, the town has been facing the problem of water supply to households in recent years. One solution was to install a photovoltaic system with a capacity of 24 kW to pump water and transport it to the village.

Molovata mayor Igor Brânza hopes that the system will allow the price for a cubic meter of water to decrease. "We plan to invest the savings made in setting up an area for waste storage and greening the parks in the village. Through this project, we modernized the water pumping facility, using renewable energy, and we want to green the locality, thus contributing to the protection of the environment", said Igor Brânza.

The system benefits from a net metering mechanism, which means that the surplus energy is delivered to the grid and could be used later when needed, such as during the cold period of the year when less energy is produced from the sun.

The works were carried out within the Empower Women for Climate-Resilient Societies project implemented by UNDP with the financial assistance of Sweden. Thus, the locality participated in a contest organized by the project and won a grant worth 16 thousand US dollars, to which it contributed another 17 thousand dollars.
