Moldovan PM participates in event on inauguration of Ion Vatamanu lyceum in Straseni

Chisinau, 22 September /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilita today participated in an event on the inauguration of the renovated building of the Ion Vatamanu Theoretical Lyceum from the central Straseni city of Moldova. The object was modernized within the project, Construction of the infrastructure on water and sewerage supply, as well as Energy Security in public buildings, financed by the European Union, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.    

Due to the project’s finishing, 650 pupils and teachers will benefit from clean energy generated by solar panels and a better insulation of the school’s building. These measures will significantly cut the gas invoices  for the local authorities and will improve the quality of people’s living.

In his speech, the PM said that the government would continue massively investing in the national education system, as well as in the measures of enhancing the energy efficiency of the public institutions.

„The goal we have is to provide a modern education system, accessible to any child. The schools and kindergartens from Moldova are eligible for the European Village national programme and so, so far, 106 projects have been approved, which sees the capital repair or modernization of education institutions. As much as 388.74 million lei was allocated from the National Fund for Regional and Local Development (FNDRL) for 2022-2023 to finance these projects. This means that thousands of children will be able to enjoy better conditions for education,’’ Natalia Gavrilita said.       

Attending the event, Ambassador of the European Union to Moldova Jānis Mažeiks reiterated the EU’s support in the process of strengthening the national energy security.   

„The energy efficiency is now more important than ever and we are happy, in the spirit of solidarity, to boost our efforts, in order to attenuate the impact of the energy crisis. The European Union for a long time has been backing the ecological transition in Moldova, in order to enhance the energy security and to reduce the emissions of greenhouse gas, in line with the European Green Deal,’’ Jānis Mažeiks said.    

„The project on improving the energy efficiency of the Ion Vatamanu Theoretical Lyceum from the Straseni city represents the close and efficient cooperation between EU, Germany and Moldova, along with the local regional development structures. The project will be accompanied by measures of developing capacities and of energy management, backed by the German government. Certainly, these will create a much better environment for the development and growth of generations of pupils,’’ Ambassador of Germany to Moldova Margret Uebber said.    

Within the project financed by EU, the building’s roof was renovated and the walls were insulated, the heating supply station and the heating system were rehabilitated and the photovoltaic system for producing electric energy was set. The institution was also supplied with hot water and new bathrooms. The overall value of the works for the energy optimization of the Ion Vatamanu Theoretical Lyceum is of 1.3 million euros, of which 1.2 million euros was provided by EU as grant and 100,000 euros is local contribution. The project’s implementation was provided by the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ Moldova), in partnership with the Infrastructure and Regional Development Ministry.
