World Heart Day marked in Moldova

Chisinau, 29 Sep. /MOLDPRES/- In the Republic of Moldova, every fourth person suffers from diseases of the circulatory system, and every second death is caused by this type of disease. The data were made public in the context of World Heart Day.
Today, in the ANSP public health centers, awareness activities will be organized for people on the importance of preventing behavioral risk factors and blood pressure and blood sugar screening activities. At the same time, with the support of the Healthy life project - Reducing the burden of non-communicable diseases, financed by the Swiss Cooperation Office, community mobilization actions will be carried out in 16 communities in 8 districts, which include the launch of self-care programs for chronic diseases, organization of leisure and physical activity spaces at community level.
According to specialists, cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) remain in first place in the world, causing almost 18.6 million deaths annually. CVD is a group of heart and blood vessel disorders that include coronary heart disease, cerebrovascular disease, rheumatic heart disease, and others. More than 75% of deaths caused by CVD are registered in low- and middle-income countries, such as the Republic of Moldova, where CVD is consistently ranked first among the causes of death, representing about 58% of all deaths, and this level is high on during the last two decades.
