Chisinau, 1 October /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu has greeted the wine-makers and vine-growers who participate in the National Wine Day in the centre of Chisinau and the regions on 1 and 2 October.

According to the presidential press service, the head of state expressed admiration and gratitude for those who work in this industry of Moldova – a quarter of million people, who bear the good name of the country far away in the world – and for the development partners, which support the development modernization of the sector. President Maia Sandu referred to the pride she had experienced when, in 2022, one Moldovan wine was declared the best in the world, in a competition with another 5,000 wines from all over the world. ‘’Moldova is, thus, the country with most prizes from the Eastern Europe at the contests of quality wines, with 1,200 medals won in one year alone, of which almost a half are golden ones. This is the proof of the quality of work and talent of our wine-makers, with the wine-making industry being a living and conclusive example when a crisis can be turned into opportunity and a catastrophe – into a revolution of quality, into a new way towards results and success,’;’ Maia Sandu stressed in her speech.

At the event, President Maia Sandu handed the Grand Prize to the Purcari Winery for performances in the sector. ‘’I was happy, at the same time, to see, on the Great National Assembly Square, many small businesses and family wine cellars, through which the art to make wine is conveyed to the new generations. This is a sign that the wine-making industry from our country has future,’’ Maia Sandu added.
