Chisinau, 1 October /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilita has conveyed a message on the National Wine Day, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.

The message reads:

”The history of wine producers shows that, through work and perseverance, we can overcome the crises stronger and more capable.

After two years of break, the most talented wine-makers from Moldova brought together in the heart of the capital, in order to boast with the new harvest and impress visitors and tourists who came to meet the autumn in our country.

The Great National Assembly Square this week-end hosts over 80 companies with traditions, small enterprises and ordinary people who raised to the level of art the reaping of grapes, making must of grapes, bottling the drink of Bacchus and its consumption. I am happy to see here more masters oenologists who share with curious people their experience and thus cultivate the culture of wine’s consumption.

The 21st issue of the Wine Day has a special connotation and bears a deep symbolism: makes a call to peace and solidarity. And when I speak about solidarity, I mean including the need to back, more than ever, the vine and wine producers and the wine-makers to re-orient and diversify their sales markets, so that their quality products reach each region of the world.

During years, the wine industry was hit by embargoes of Russia, economic crises and, more recently, by the pandemic. Nevertheless, the wine products worked hard and with perseverance to enhance the quality of wines, were innovative and creative in the promotion of products and invested pride and love in our nice wineries. Dear wine-makers, you have managed not only to overcome the crises, but also excel and bear our fame far beyond the borders of our country! Those more than 1,000 distinctions and medals won at international contests speak about this. The fact that Moldovan wines are on shelves of shops from over 70 countries where they are presently exported speak about this as well. And maybe the most important thing is that you have managed to preserve and increase the number of jobs for those over 250,000 people who work in the wine industry and the related branches!

The government remains a reliable partner and will further provide the support needed to the vine-growers and wine-makers, in order to give them an impetus to develop the businesses and extend their exports to target markets. This week, during the working visit to Japan, I discussed with Japanese importers of Moldovan wines and my counterpart Fumio Kishida the possibility of cutting the import tax for our wines.’’
