Chisinau, 1 October /MOLDPRES/ - Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu has had a meeting with National Defence Minister of Romania Vasile Dincu, on a visit to Chisinau. The officials discussed the security challenges faced by Moldova and the entire region in the wake of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, the parliament’s communication and public relations department has reported.

The parliament speaker said Moldova’s authorities were keeping a close eye on what is happening in the proximity of the country. Grosu reiterated that the latest decisions of Russia on the referendums were illegal. ‘’Russia must observe the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine and other countries,’’ the parliament speaker stressed.

Igor Grosu specified that Moldova needed the assistance and experience of other states in coping with the challenges and hybrid threats faced in the last year, beginning misinformation up to cyber attacks and energy pressures.

At the meeting, the parliament speaker noted that Moldova had inherited an army without equipment and military technology, without means, through which it should fulfill its task efficiently. ‘’Our duty is to reform and modernize the security and defence sector, in line with the new developments, and the cooperation with Romania in this field will help us move quicker,’’ the parliament speaker said. He thanked Minister Vasile Dincu for the support the Romanian side was providing to Moldova’s army, including through the organization of joint exercises with the participation of Moldovan servicemen, who thus have occasion to become better.
