Moldovan writer turns 80

Chisinau, 2 October /MOLDPRES/ - Prose writer, publicist, script writer and editor, holder of the Mihai Eminescu medal Victor Prohin marks his 80th birthday anniversary today.
Victor Prohin was born in Vindrei settlement, Mordovia, Russia, in 1942. Since the age of three years, Prohin was brought up in the Lencauti village, northern Ocnita district. He graduated from the Philology Faculty of the Moldovan State University in 1965. Victor Prohin worked as editor at Radio Moldova, deputy editor-in-chief at the Chiparus (Small Pepper) magazine, deputy editor-in-chief at the Nistru – Basarabia magazine, head of section at the Moldova Suverana newspaper. Since 2002, Prohin has been secretary in charge at the magazine for children Alunelul.
Victor Prohin made his editorial debut in 1969 with a volume for children. Some of his works were translated into the Latvian, Lithuanian, Estonian, Bulgarian, Russian languages.
He was MP of the Supreme Soviet of the Moldovan Soviet Socialist Republic (RSSM) (1985-1990). He has been member of the Moldovan Writers’ Union since 1972 and member of the Writers’ Union of Romania as of 1994.
