Over 655 thousand lei to be collected for benefit of state in smuggling case

Chisinau, Oct. 5 /MOLDPRES/- The PCCOCS prosecutors announced today that they obtained the disposition of the collection for the benefit of the state of the value of the means of transport, used for smuggling the 150 thousand cigarettes found in Leușeni last October.

According to PCCOCS, the value of the means of transport is over 655,000 lei (about 34 thousand euros). The decision was pronounced by the Chisinau Court of Appeal and is final and enforceable.

In October 2021, the driver of a truck was stopped at Leușenii customs and more than 150 thousand cigarettes were found in the tanks of the truck. The man has been working as a long-haul driver since 2019, and he bought the nine expensive brands of cigarettes at gas stations.

At the request of PCCOCS prosecutors, the contraband and transport goods were seized, with a view to their subsequent confiscation, for the benefit of the state. According to the law, smuggling of excise goods committed under the circumstances of this criminal case is punishable by imprisonment from 4 to 10 years.
