Chisinau, Oct. 6 /MOLDPRES/- Over 100 households that provide professional parental assistance services and family-type children's homes will benefit from energy audits based on which work will be carried out to improve the energy efficiency in the homes, the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) announced today.

It is possible thanks to the support of the European Union, offered in partnership with the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection and the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development, through the program Addressing the impacts of the energy crisis in the Republic of Moldova, implemented by UNDP. As part of the energy audits, technical information will be collected and potential measures of energy efficiency and use of renewable energy sources will be identified to be applied in 100 households providing social services selected from 374 providers that participated in the competition.

"Thus, greenhouse gas emissions generated by non-renewable sources will decrease as a result of the implementation of the measures included in this initiative: thermal insulation of external walls, floors and roofs, replacement of external windows and doors, installation of solar collectors for domestic hot water and of photovoltaic panels for the production of electricity and the efficiency of the interior lighting system and of the thermal energy supply system", indicates the quoted source.

The investments of about 500 thousand euros in the energy efficiency of the buildings of social service providers represent a pilot stage of the Casa verde program, which will be taken over by the authorities and expanded nationally. The EU and UNDP will assist in the institutionalization of the process, providing authorities with expertise to create an accessible support tool for households.

With a budget of 10 million euros, the program Addressing the impacts of the energy crisis in the Republic of Moldova contributes to the fight against climate change by reducing the impact of the energy crisis and alleviating the burden of energy poverty, said UNDP.
