Chisinau, Oct. 10 /MOLDPRES/- The General Police Inspectorate (IGP) has repeatedly requested the Chisinau city hall to stop the demonstrations organized in the center of the capital by supporters of the Shor party, as a series of violations were established. The statement was made today by the head of the IGP, Viorel Cernăuțeanu, during a press conference.
The IGP leadership said that the local authority can decide to ban meetings. "The police presented the municipality with eight addresses requesting the cessation of the demonstrations, as a series of contraventions and crimes were established within them. We tried to be cooperative with the organizers of the action, but without results. Just yesterday, 45 violations were established and a criminal case was initiated against one of the organizers. At the same time, the police received a lot of complaints from citizens regarding the blocking of arteries, a fact that creates discomfort. I hope that the Chisinau mayor has realized the risks and will take the necessary actions to stop or change the format of the action. The mayor has the possibility to issue an order stopping the demonstration, otherwise, based on a court decision, he can be suspended from office for failure to properly fulfill his duties", said Viorel Cernăuțeanu.
For his part, Chisinau mayor Ion Ceban said that unblocking the arteries is the responsibility of the police.
A section of Ștefan cel Mare boulevard was blocked, after Shor party protesters set up tents on the road. The demonstrations organized by the band's representatives began on September 18. During this period, the number of tents increased, which led to the blocking of the route.
